I made this for a sixteen year old's "sweet sixteen" birthday party. Lemme tell you, this thing was definitely a process, I couldn't believe that someone wanted a cake this big and involved for a sixteen year old, but I digress.
The cakes were chocolate for the bottom and top tier, and french vanilla for the middle tier, all covered in plain buttercream icing. The polka dots and wavy stripes were made from black fondant, and the bottom of each tier was finished off with jelly beans coordinating with the colors of the rest of the cake.
I made the "sweet sixteen Briana" plaque out of fondant, and actually wrote the message with a sharpie.
I'm not entirely happy the way the writing turned out, I feel like I kinda started to run out of room trying to finish Briana's name, oh well. The "16" was also made from fondant. Both pieces were sprayed with glittery spray paint, so I warned the family not to eat them!!
My husband actually made the glittery pom-poms, aren't they cute? You can buy plain pom-poms from any arts and crafts store, I got them from Michael's in pink, black, and white. The pom-poms were attached to sparkly pipe cleaners, and then the pom-poms were also spray painted with the glitter paint.
I took tons of pictures of me filling and icing the bottom tier of this cake for a tutorial soon! After working on this cake for the past 2 days, I'm a little too tired to get that involved in a blog tonight. I hope you enjoy this cake, I think it turned out pretty darn cute.

7Yes, Briana LOVED it, the cake was actually based on a "sketch" that her mom provided me! Her mother emailed me later and wrote this:
8"hey,
I just wanted to take a minute to thank you so much for Briana's cake. It was the most awesome cake ever!!! I do not like cake , but I ate 2 pieces because it was so delicious. It was perfect in every way. The gentleman that was helping us with the party is a designated world class chef...he travels the world just to cook and eat and said that he has never had such a wonderful cake anywhere, ever. You are truly great at what you do."
Wow, that's such a sweet thank you letter!
