This cake was for an 8 year old's pirate themed birthday party. The cake was sculptured from yellow cake and chocolate buttercream icing. The details on the ship and water were made from colored plain buttercream icing. The railing of the top portion of the cake was made from strawberry twizzler pieces. The cannon, pirate, and treasure chest were made from hand molded fondant pieces, and the "sand" was made from crushed graham crackers. The sails were made from decorated pieces of paper and were attached to wooden dowels.
On a side note, this cake was extremely hard for me to make, and I really did not enjoy a second of it. That being said, I'm at least glad I had the opportunity to see just how hard it is to bring something to life that you just have a vague idea of how to make happen. Also, next time I would have probably used brown colored plain buttercream instead of chocolate because the sticky-ness of the chocolate icing really infuriated me even further.

6Thanks girls!
I really just think I don't enjoy making children's birthday cakes that much, so I
already sort of have a negative outlook going into them, and then when things don't go my way easily while making them, that just makes me even more mad. Oh well, at least I got paid for this
one!!
7Awesome!!
